Three charitable organisations on the Garden Route have benefitted substantially from the Eden Classic Car Group’s Car and Motorcycle Show staged at the Scarab Village in Sedgefield earlier this year.
A total of R42 688, which was the bulk of the gate takings, has been paid out to the three charities, which were the Sedgefield/Knysna Hospice, The Living Cornerstone, in Sedgefield (an Alzheimer Care Home), and the Cherished Community Support Programme, also based in Sedgefield.
The bulk of the R25 000 paid to the Sedgefield/Knysna Hospice is being used to buy a large shed which will be erected behind the Sedgefield Hospice Shop to store equipment needed by the patients. This will provide sorely needed extra space for Sister Henriette, with the excess money to be spent on additional equipment and mattresses for the Hospice.
The R11 688 donated to the The Living Cornerstone Alzheimer Care Home was used to buy a dishwasher, cooker hood, and microwave, which completed the recent refurbishment and upgrading of the kitchen.
The R6 000 donated to the Cherished Community Support Programme in Sedgefield, has been used to buy kit for an underprivileged girls soccer team. The amount covered the cost of 14 shirts, 14 shorts and 14 pairs of socks as well as kit for the goalkeeper. Providing the team with a proper uniform has not only boosted confidence, but also enhanced a sense of unity, pride and empowerment while uplifting the team in the eyes of the community.
The 2025 Eden Classic Car and Motorcycle Show will be held at the Scarab Village on July 6 and will again coincide with the Knysna Oyster Festival. Local charities will again be the benefactors. For more information contact Peter Pretorius at Email peterpretorius6@gmail.com.
