- Clean-sheet design enhances performance, refinement and space for personal use and business customers
- Launches with Tourneo Trend LWB, using a 2.0L Single Turbo diesel engine with AdBlue and an eight-speed automatic transmission
PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA, 10 September 2024 – The new Ford Tourneo raises the bar in the multi-activity vehicle segment, featuring a new platform engineered for maximum versatility and comfort. It is designed to enhance the ownership experience for both personal use and business customers, offering spacious accommodation for up to eight occupants.
Initially available in Trend specification and a long-wheelbase configuration, it is powered by a fuel-efficient 2.0L Single Turbo diesel engine with AdBlue, in combination with a new smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. Additional models will join the Tourneo line-up at a later stage.
Comfort levels of the new Tourneo are enhanced by the superior refinement and vehicle dynamics delivered by next-generation vehicle design. The optimised chassis architecture with independent rear suspension offers a new level of ride comfort and stability.
“Whether it’s an active family trip at the weekend or shuttling executives to the airport in style, comfort and refinement, Tourneo’s advanced connectivity, cutting-edge design and new luxury features make it the compelling choice in the multi-activity vehicle segment,” says Doreen Mashinini, General Manager for Marketing at Ford South Africa.
Designed for space and comfort – with flexible seating and luxury features
The new Tourneo has been developed to offer occupants significantly enhanced levels of comfort and convenience, while the stylish new interior features superior craftsmanship and material quality.
An optimised vehicle platform ensures generous cabin space, with three rows of seating for up to eight occupants delivering next-level practicality. The enhanced interior specification starts with a flexible new track-mounted seating system in the second- and third rows, which allows maximum adaptability when arranging the cabin for people and luggage. The tracked seating enables customers to slide seats forward or back along notched tracks set into the rear cabin floor, or to lift seats out completely. The three second-row seats can each be moved independently, while the third-row seats have a two seat/one seat split.
The new seats are lighter than those in the outgoing model and the second-row features integrated seatbelts, so reconfiguring the cabin – including into a useful six-person conference layout – can be done more quickly and easily. With the second- and third-row seats removed, a massive 6.8m3 of loading volume is unleashed, along with the ability to carry three standard Euro pallets. ISOFIX points are available on all three seats in the second-row as well as the two outboard seats in the third row.
For maximum comfort on the move, the Tourneo’s cabin offers high-end features such as automatic dual zone electronic climate control, rear seat climate control and heated driver and front passenger seats.
The Tourneo’s enhanced feature content is combined with a significant improvement in capability and performance. The vehicle’s all-new architecture delivers a lower floor height and a new integrated sidestep to make ingress and loading easier, supported by a large aperture for the sliding side doors.
The optimised platform has also enabled a reduced overall height of under two metres, which enables access to garages and multi-storey car parks that are often inaccessible to vehicles in the Tourneo segment, as well as contributing to optimised efficiency and refinement through improved aerodynamics.
Both drivers and passengers will benefit from the dynamic improvements provided by a completely redesigned chassis featuring an all-new independent rear suspension system that is standard across the range to deliver enhanced ride comfort, handling and refinement.
Innovative design – inside and out
The new Tourneo makes a clear statement on the road, with an expressive and sculptural design to appeal to private customers and high-end businesses alike. With a confident stance, the vehicle has increased visual width front and rear, for a planted and stable appearance.
The sophisticated yet practical design is continued within the vehicle, where the stylish front cabin offers a significant step forward in technology and comfort. The instrument panel features an ergonomic 13-inch central touchscreen built around Ford’s SYNC®4 infotainment system, with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility as standard. Wireless charging is available as standard. The central screen is complemented by a new 12-inch instrument cluster that includes an 8-inch inch configurable digital display.
All occupants will be able to keep their smart mobile devices charged thanks to a range of ports including 1 front dual USB (USB A and C), 1 front 12 V socket, 1 rear 12 V socket, and 3 rear USB ports are standard.
A column-mounted shifter for vehicles with an automatic transmission frees up more knee and leg space as well as making ingress and egress easier. Further front cabin space and increased instrument panel storage is created by the roof-mounted front passenger airbag. This enables customers to keep laptop or A4 folder-sized items in the covered dashboard storage, and means portable electronic devices can now be safely fitted closer to the driver with industry-standard AMPS mountings.
Efficient performance
The Tourneo Trend is powered by Ford’s efficient and economical 2.0-litre Single Turbo (SiT) EcoBlue diesel engine that uses AdBlue diesel exhaust fluid to transform nitrogen oxide into harmless nitrogen and water, significantly reducing the impact of its exhaust emissions. A 20-litre AdBlue tank is standard. Additionally, it incorporates Auto Stop/Start to further reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
The 2.0L SiT diesel engine delivers 100kW of power at 3 500 r/min, matched to 360Nm of torque between 1 750 and 2 500 r/min. It is exclusively available with an advanced new eight-speed automatic transmission that provides seamless power delivery to the front wheels, whether commuting in the city or heading off to a far-flung holiday or family adventure destination.
The performance of the powertrain can be optimised using the Selectable Drive Modes, including Eco and Tow/Haul, to suit different operating requirements and driving conditions. All powertrain variants offer highly competitive towing capability, including a braked trailer weight of up to 2 500kg.
Tourneo features a comprehensive suite of Ford’s latest advanced driver assistance systems, including a number of features available on the model for the first time:
- Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control
- Lane Keeping Aid
- Evasive Steering Assist
- Forward Collision Warning
- Reverse Brake Assist

- Adaptive Front Lighting System
- ABS brakes with Dynamic Stability Control
- Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
- Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)

A total of six airbags are provided, comprising dual front, side and rear curtain airbags. In terms of vehicle security, shielded power door deadlocks are fitted, along with a two-step door unlocking system as part of the keyless entry and push-button start. A Thatcham Category 1-specification alarm and immobiliser system is available as standard.
Connected features The Tourneo is equipped with a 5G FordPass Connect modem, allowing owners to remotely lock or unlock the doors, remotely start the vehicle to cool or heat the cabin, and get vehicle-specific health alerts – all via the FordPass app. The modem also enables wireless Ford Power-Up software updates to improve Tourneo’s features and capabilities without requiring a trip to the dealership.
